A 140-Year-Old Masterpiece

Introducing a truly exceptional timepiece: a unique H. Moser & Cie watch, celebrating 140 years of craftsmanship while remaining in remarkable condition. This exquisite piece has been part of a private collection, worn only once at a friend’s wedding in Spain 21 years ago. Now, it seeks a new custodian to appreciate its storied heritage.

This watch features rare radium numerals, a characteristic of early watch production that significantly enhances its value. Rest assured, it is perfectly safe to wear. H. Moser & Cie has an illustrious history, having created timepieces for the Tsar of Russia and the royal court, before returning to Le Locle, Switzerland, during the Russian revolution. Today, H. Moser & Cie is renowned for producing some of the finest watches in the world.

This particular piece, an antique Swiss creation made by the International Watch Company (IWC) for the Russian Empire, dates from 1887 to 1890. It showcases an original nickel-chrome case, marked with Г. Мозеръ и Ко., the brand stamp HM&Co, and the serial number 14205, confirming its historical significance. The watch includes two rear covers, providing enhanced protection against dust and moisture, safeguarding its delicate mechanism.

Adorning the exterior lid is the silver coat of arms of the Russian Empire—a two-headed eagle—symbolising its royal connections. Inside, the watch boasts a gold-plated movement, signed with the HM&Co stamp, and a striking original white porcelain dial featuring luminous hour markers that glow in the dark, elevating its allure.

As one of the rarest examples available, this timepiece holds significant historical value. It predates many notable events, having been worn long before the Boer War and the Zulu War. Its rich history invites curiosity and admiration, making it a truly captivating piece.

This watch operates using a unique “nail set” mechanism; instead of pulling out the crown to set the time, one simply presses a button near the crown and turns it to adjust the hands. This intuitive design ensures ease of use. The dome glass is crafted from durable Plexiglas, and the watch was serviced late last year, ensuring it remains in excellent working order.

With a diameter of 36.5 mm including the crown and 33.5 mm for the watch itself, it features a beautiful enamel dial with an unobtrusive spider web pattern invisible to the naked eye. Fixed lugs complete the design, and a new Vendome strap has been added for optimal comfort and style.

This H. Moser & Cie watch is not just a timepiece; it is a piece of history, embodying elegance and sophistication. It stands as a testament to fine watchmaking and is ready to add its unique story to the next discerning collector’s collection.
