Minerva 1948 Montblanc Heritage Small Second 38mm Manual Wind Wristwatch – Steel Case, Enamel Dial, Limited Edition

£1,585.00

Since 2003, a remarkable treasure has been resting in the former Minerva factory, now part of Montblanc since 2007—38 hand-wound movements with a history dating back to 1948, beautifully encased in the Montblanc Heritage Small Second Limited Edition 38 wristwatches. The story began in 2007 when Minerva and Montblanc merged, continuing a legacy that started in 1858 with Charles-Yvan and Hyppolite Robert, who passed down their watchmaking expertise through generations. Featuring fixed lugs, a 38mm diameter (excluding the crown), and sub-seconds, this model showcases classic design elements. It retains its original strap, though in poor condition, and boasts perfect hinges and an enamel dial with some spider webbing. Having been serviced approximately four years ago, its overall condition is very good for a 76-year-old timepiece. While it wears superbly on the wrist, it is best reserved for special occasions, making it a valuable piece of horological history for discerning collectors.

A Timeless Treasure

Since 2003, a remarkable treasure has been resting in the drawers of the former Minerva factory, which has been part of Montblanc since 2007. This treasure consists of 38 hand-wound movements, each with a rich history dating back to 1948. These meticulously refined and regulated movements have been beautifully encased in 38 stainless steel wristwatches known as the Montblanc Heritage Small Second Limited Edition 38, eagerly anticipated by collectors worldwide.

The story of the Montblanc Heritage Small Second Limited Edition 38 began over a decade ago, in 2007, when the paths of Minerva and Montblanc converged. Founded in 1858 by Charles-Yvan and Hyppolite Robert, Minerva has a storied history rooted in traditional watchmaking. The owners, passionate about their craft, have consistently passed down their expertise through generations, allowing their legacy to flourish. The original mission was to assemble watch movements from the ebauches factory in Fontainemelon (FHF). By 1878, Charles and Georges Robert continued this tradition, with Yvan Robert joining them in 1885. The distinctive hallmark of their craftsmanship, represented by the letters RF and V arranged in a V shape, became synonymous with quality.

In 1909, Minerva introduced its first small hand-wound calibers for wristwatches, initially with a diameter of 12 lignes (27 millimetres), which eventually inspired the creation of smaller, 10½-ligne versions for wristwatches.
This particular model features fixed lugs, a 38mm diameter (excluding the crown), and sub-seconds, showcasing the brand's commitment to classic design. The watch retains its original strap, though it is in poor condition, and the hinges are perfect. The enamel dial exhibits some spider webbing, adding character to this vintage piece. Having been serviced approximately four years ago, its condition is very good considering its 76 years of age.

While it sits superbly on the wrist, it is advised to reserve this valuable piece for special occasions rather than daily wear, ensuring that its legacy continues to be celebrated. The Montblanc Heritage Small Second Limited Edition 38 is not just a watch; it is a piece of history, a testament to the art of watchmaking that collectors will treasure for generations to come.
